Mastiha liqueur gets its world unique taste from the essential oil extract of the natural, aromatic resin (‘mastiha’) of the mastiha tree. This small, evergreen tree (Pistacia Lentiscus var Chia) is exceptionally rare, and is only able to grow in the southern part of the Greek island of Chios. Although variations are able to grow elsewhere, it is only in the southern Chian terroir that the mastiha tree yields its special resin, an exclusive natural product that has been irresistible to man for centuries for its extraordinary taste and many health benefits and digestive properties.
