Welcome to the world of Mastiha –a world 2,500 years old whose story starts in the Greek island of Chios, of myriad myths, adventures and personalities that have always had one treasured gem in common: mastiha.
Mastiha is a sweet, crystal clear liqueur made using the aromatic resin of the mastiha (or mastic) tree. This tree is extraordinarily rare, and only grows in the southern part of Chios island. Known since antiquity for its delicate taste and natural healing properties, authentic mastiha resin continues to be sourced and distilled in a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation across the centuries. This special tradition has been recognised by UNESCO as a globally unique “living heritage” of humanity (ICH), and mastiha has been recognised as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product by the EU.
Today, mastiha is popularly loved for its unique deep flavour, and is sold across Greece and around the world (including the US, France, Netherlands. Switzerland, Germany and Egypt). The liqueur is traditionally enjoyed chilled and neat, and has now bursted into the mixology scene as the exhilarating inspiration for new cocktail recipes, and fresh twist in established classics.
Mastiha World has entered into an exclusive partnership with the Chios Mastiha Growers’ Association’s (or ‘Union’, the leading producer and seller of mastiha worldwide) official shop, to bring two very special premium mastiha liqueurs to the UK: the authentic and crafted spirits of the Chian Mastiha Growers, Kentos (20% alc./vol.) and Enosis (30% alc./vol.).
